As a 24 year retired Disabled Vet, I first started seeing Dr Loftus and his Staff in 2009 for a severe spinal injury which required monitoring and maintenance to insure hardware and donor bone stability. Over the last 4 years I have been seen at Dr Loftus office between 6-8 times and only the first two were actually with Dr Loftus, the majority were conducted by his Physician Assistants (PA). Then 3 weeks ago my wife was in a horrible auto crash caused by another driver who hit her head-on. The medical team who worked to repair my wife’s many injuries from Ortho to trauma surgeons for a ruptured spleen were excellent. I did not feel comfortable with the Staff Neurologist and fought hard for my wife to be seen by Dr Loftus. After many phone calls to his office and communications with his Office Staff, I was informed that my wife would have to be brought to their office. I informed the entire Staff that my wife was in severe pain from multiple pelvic fractures and was still unable to walk or stand on her own and still had to use a bed pan, to which they replied it would not bother “themâ€. I tried to explain that she also had fractures to her vertebrae and we were concerned about future paralysis. It became clear that the Staff was treating my wife as a number and more interested in her insurance coverage than causing her more pain and humiliation by bring her to a public office in a very vulnerable state. At one point the male PA contacted me and proceeded to explain how I did not understand the process for a true Neurologist exam and basically in the most condescending matter stated I was to “over protectiveâ€. Truth is, after over two dozen Neuro visits over the years, the exam has always been, “raise your feet up, push your feet down, can you feel this, and let’s look at your MRIâ€, which by the way I provided from the initial screening. Bottom line, I have not talked to Dr Loftus in quite some time and at this point whether he knows it or not his Staff has forever lost me as a patient. He is responsible for his Staffs conduct and coordination with the public and ignorance of his assistants is not an excuse. Here you will be treated as a number, with very little respect or dignity and it will be on their terms and not yours, regardless of its affect on you or your loved ones.(Posted April 2013 via Vitals)
